Diagnostic health monitoring
Virtual diagnostic monitoring (VDM) enhances traditional digital optical monitoring (DOM) parameters for temperature, voltage, and optical power with capabilities to measure pre-FEC bit error rates (pre-FEC BER) and frame error counts (FERC).
Measuring only at host end points lacks granularity to effectively pinpoint where link degradations or failures are occurring. By relying on forward error correction data pulled from decoders in the host platforms, it cannot identify if the issue is in the optical link itself or the electrical-optical interface between host platforms and optical modules.
Intelligent health monitoring
Granular health monitoring is critical in massive AI clusters.
DSP decoder functionality in the optics module enables fine-grained detail of link health. Measurement points from the DSP are correlated with statistics from the host ASIC to isolate faults across the link. Software intelligence correlates the pre-FEC BER parameters across the measurement points to isolate degradation across the entire link.
